The Child Development Support System is being introduced gradually in Latvia. Pilot projects are being implemented in several municipalities to prepare for the full functioning of the system across the country. For residents of these municipalities, the new model of support and the work of specialist teams is becoming available a little earlier.

Running of pilot projects

During pilot projects, multi-professional team working methodology and Early Child Development Screening Toolkit (BAASIK) are introduced in municipalities. The pilot project shall allow:

  • Provide timely support: families have the opportunity to receive coordinated specialist assistance and an in-depth assessment.
  • Use state-of-the-art tools: support planning uses the latest development evaluation tools to help better identify a child's needs.
  • Co-ordinate specialist co-operation: local government specialists in practice improve mutual co-operation so that the support needed for a child is successive and understandable.

Municipalities where the pilot project will be implemented

The phasing-in of the support system begins in four municipalities where multi-professional teams start their activities:

  • Cesis
  • Jekabpils
  • Liepaja
  • Daugavpils
  • Riga
