Child development multiprofessional teams

Child Development Team is a multi-professional panel working together to evaluate and support children who have been identified with having developing risks. The team provides coordinated and comprehensive support, involving both the child's family and the educational institution in the process.

Team composition

The support process in the municipality will be co-ordinated by a group of specialists with different professional competence:

  • Paediatrician - coordinates health issues and tracks the child's overall health condition.
  • Psychologist – evaluates cognitive, emotional and social development.
  • A speech therapist or audiologoped - evaluates and provides support for language and speech development.
  • Physiotherapist or occupational therapist – works with the development of motor, movement and daily skills.
  • Social worker - co-ordinates social and social rehabilitation services available to the family.
  • Special educator – co-operates with educational institutions and plans the necessary support in the training process.
  • Child neurologist – evaluates the development of the nervous system.
  • A child psychiatrist or neonatologist – is invites based on the individual needs of the child.

Main tasks

The team shall ensure a succession and targeted process by performing the following tasks:

  • In-depth assessment: conduct detailed professional research after early screening to accurately identify a child's developmental needs.
  • Development of an integrated individual plan: establish a digital support plan combining health, education and social services.
  • Cooperation with family and educational institution: ensure regular exchange of information and provide recommendations for day-to-day work with the child at home and educational institution.
  • Advisory support and interventions: provide professional advice and provide early intervention measures to promote child development.
  • Coordination of health support: provides interdisciplinary access to children with multiple disabilities and helps identify necessary aids or assistive technologies.
  • Monitoring progress: regularly assess the child's growth and tailor support measures based on results.

Operating principles

Effective support shall be based on the following principles:

  • Multidisciplinarity: Each specialist gives his expertise, but all decisions and support steps are taken and agreed together.
  • Individual approach: the support plan is designed to accommodate each child's specific abilities and needs.
  • Early intervention: support starts immediately after risk identification to achieve the best outcomes in a child's development.
  • Family engagement and support: family is a full participant in decision-making and individual plan development, receiving the necessary resources and information.
  • Holistic approach: not only medical but social, emotional and educational support is provided, taking into account all aspects of a child's life.
  • Continuous monitoring: the development dynamics of the child are regularly monitored, ensuring that the support provided is up-to-date and effective in the long term.
